Black Friday, the “biggest shopping day of the year,” corresponds with the biggest family holiday in the US–Thanksgiving. The correspondence creates contradictions. Retail workers, in particular, have little choice but to leave their friends and family and work the holiday weekend. The Imaginary Friends & Family Project highlights this contradiction by making friends and family of Black Friday workers on November 29, 2014.
Thank you to my hardworking Imaginary Friends & Family in retail, who took a break from the Black Friday madness to say hello and join the IFaF community. Thanks also to Josh Payne, pictured here, for the Imaginary Friends & Family Project’s documentary photography.
