American (post) Exhibition & Workshops July 13-22, 2012

My first (ever) solo art show, American (post) opens Friday, July 13, 2012 in Red Mill Gallery at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont and runs through July 22. The opening reception on the 13th takes place from 7-8pm and will feature a short reading at 7:15pm.

The exhibition also includes the opportunity for visitors to collaborate with the show. Two workshops will take place to guide visitors in their collaborations. On Friday, July 13 from 4-5pm, and on Saturday, July 14 from 10:30-noon, participants will be encouraged to explore the exhibition, inside and out, and to collaborate with other participants to create a translation of their experience of the show. These translations will be incorporated into the exhibition. All ages are welcome,  supplies are provided, and no experience is necessary.

I conducted similar workshops recently at Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota to celebrate Bridget Beck’s newest sculpture, “Poetry Studio.” Participants ranging in age from five years old to sixty had a blast collaborating in ways that ultimately surprised themselves…and Bridget and me. It was inspiring to see such a diverse group of people come together to interact with each other and the art around them and to create poems together. You might also enjoy seeing how American (post) has come together in the  studio. This short video captures the last year of working on the project in my studio at the Vermont Studio Center, and it includes some footage of visitors interacting with the pieces during open studios on July 4th.
